Friends Plan << That’s my best friend Alex. The two of us started on our adventure through life together back in 2007. If you can glean anything from that photo, hopefully it’s that we’re a team. Maybe you also got “young,” “silly,” or “crazy” out of it as well. You’re not the only ones – and you’re not wrong!

Having made it through nearly 4 years together, albeit at separate colleges,  we got to a point in our lives where we had to make some serious decisions about the course our lives would take. Would we look for jobs in other parts of the country? Should we apply to go directly to grad school, or work for a bit before hand? Were we going to coordinate our paths, or were we going to figure out the most advantageous next individual moves and hope for the best for our relationship?

After much soul-searching and many conversations that lasted into the wee-hours of the morning, we ultimately decided that we wanted to be together, in Massachusetts.

Another key decision we made was to not move in together right away (as much as we wanted to!), but to instead live at our parents’ homes with the intention of saving enough money to buy a property.

To take it one step further, we very deliberately selected the type of property we set as our target. Taking into consideration our age, needs and financial goals, we knew that a multifamily property would do the trick.

On a tight budget, it took us the better part of two years to achieve our goal. The house we ended up purchasing was a multifamily in desperate need of updating and renovation (not necessarily in the plan, but hey, we did want to maximize our investment!). Only three years out of college we embarked on one of our biggest and most rewarding challenges yet – tearing it apart and building it back up. To accomplish the task, we put our teamwork, creativity, and love for trying new things to work. Along the way, we became business partners, amateur carpenters, masons, painters, gardeners and interior designers – all hats we still wear today.
